Our Mission & Values

African Culture and Ancestry

We honor the wisdom of our ancestors, grounding our justice practices in the historical and spiritual foundations of African communities.

Communalism

Justice is not a solitary act but a collective responsibility. We believe in the power of the community to heal and restore.

Restoration

Our focus is on reconciliation and the rebuilding of relationships, ensuring that harm is addressed and peace is restored.

The Indaba

Our journey began with a simple yet profound question: How can we heal the wounds of our communities while honoring the wisdom of our ancestors? The Ubuntu Justice Initiative was born from a deep understanding that true justice is not about punishment, but about restoration and collective accountability.

We are a youth-centered movement that bridges the gap between traditional African values and modern restorative practices. By centering the voices of the youth and the community, we create spaces where healing is possible and transformation is inevitable. Our story is one of courage, empathy, and a shared commitment to a more just future.

The Indaba Court is a restorative justice process that prioritizes healing over punishment. It brings together the community, the offender, and the victim to facilitate accountability and transformation through dialogue and shared responsibility.
